I will say one thing. This REALLY IS one of the most
UNFAIR decisions that US Figure skating has
EVER made. Mirai skated WAY better than
Ashley, yet Mirai gets bumped. Mirai earned
an Olympic sport that has been snatched away
from her.

Being that the folks at PDXISS like to pounce
on the Skating Establishment, they will have
a FIELD DAY, if they decide to take this
story up.

And I am sure this decision is NOT likely
to go down well with figure skating fans,
and it probably is not. There msut be skating
fans right now logging on to one board to
vent their displeasure, as that board is running
very slow right now. In fact, if you try
and access it now, the connection will
"time out".

I think that US Figure Skating is going to
regret this for a long time. The recent
recession, like other ones before it, has
thinned out the pool of talented skaters.
This is going to make a recovery from
it that mcuh harder.

I hate to say this, but could well end
up another 20 or more years before
the US wins another ladies gold medal
at the Olympics. It has been 16 years
now (Tara was the last US lady to win
in 1998).

With a lack of talented US ladies,
I think that Bellinsgiazenia, Ognia, Japan, and
Russia will be the dominant nations
in the ladies event. Ognia's Mao
Asada is, as of right now, the
OVERWHELMING favourite to
win in Sochi. Japan has a few up
and coming skater. The Russian
bear is finally getting its growl back,
and Bellinsguazenia has a few that
could win medals in a few more years.

Stick a fork in American ladies skating.
American womens skating is FINSIHED.

I will say the one editorial I posted on my
web site about this is certainly getting a lot
of hits from places you do not normally
associate with figure skating.

Canyon Country, Ca, is a not a place
you would associate with figure skating.
The closest ice rink to there is the East
West rink, in Artesia, about 53 miles
away.

And Sacramento, where I lived, before
heading off to Australia in 1995 is also
a place you do not asscociate with
skating.

Much of the area has only been developed
since the 1990s. For a long time, it was
only known as the place you stopped when
going between San Francisco and Reno.

Until the 1990s, it was more of a blue
collar town. The only really educated
people were students living near Sac
State. Other than that, there were not
that many educated people in the
population, prior of the 1990s.

Until SkateTown opened in
nearby Roseville, the nearest ice rink
was in Sant Rosa, 97 miles away,
at Snoopy Ice

I see hits to that article from Tulsa,
Okalahoma. Now THAT is a place
where you would never associate with
ice skating. There are NO ice rinks in
Oklahoma, though there are plenty of
ROLLER rinks. Oklahoma is all blue
collar beer guzzling redneck types that
would be more into football than into
ice skating.

I also see one from Sweden. While
Sweden has done well in other winter
sports, figure skating is NOT that
country's forte. Sweded has not
won ANY Olympic figure skating medals,
since 1908, when Ulrich Salchow won
the gold. Sweden has NOT had ANY
medallists in ANY discipline, since.
